Job Description
The deployment of public and commercially offered WiFi is a vital strategic product that the Bright House Networks is focused on expanding. The position of WiFi Design Engineer encompasses the responsibility of both pre-sales design as well as post installation design consolation. The ideal candidate will be an experienced professional with working knowledge of building construction, analyzing RF environments, current industry leading 802.11 wireless standards, applicable knowledge from hotspot to stadium grade deployment principles.
Critical elements of this role include, not just the technical requirements but aligning closely with operational support organizations, sales teams, SE support groups and others to assist in the continued review and delivery of highly reliable network designs.
This position reports to the Senior Manager Enterprise Solutions Engineering and does not have any direct reports.

Principal Duties and
Responsibilities:
Autonomously create comprehensive network designs for potential customers to meet wireless and back office core requirements defined by the customer use case.
Integrate knowledge of building construction, RF behavioral characteristics and current hardware vendor limitations to create design proposals.
Gather and translate customer requirements or strategic business objectives into final product design and leverage the available solutions for multiple initiatives.
Be fluent in Authentication principals, Access Control, Policy Management, Application Acceleration, cross vendor roaming, EMS/SIEM, Redundancy and Reliability in controller based WiFi architectures.
Perform in-depth site survey's using the latest test equipment available to determine pre-existing RF environments and potential design challenges with any given construction media.
Troubleshoot problems identified in lab testing and drive them to resolution. This includes working closely with vendors, BHN Core engineer, Network Operations and peers to determine root causes or final resolution to global issues.
Design cutting-edge technology solutions into a usable, manageable and marketable service using the knowledge of WiFi standards, architecture and evolution. Make decisions and recommendations for technical solutions of the WiFi service offering.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Applicant may be required to work both inside and outside of the facility.
Applicant must have the ability to lift equipment weighing 65 pounds, sit for long periods of time in front of a computer as well as the ability to type and read on a computer.
Typing and reading on a computer, talking on telephone, moving objects and materials for promotional event set up.
Primarily will work inside the Bright House Networks offices.
Flexible hours and/or on-call may be required.
Required Skills
BA in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Management Information Systems or equivalent preferred or 5-8 years of related experience
5-7 years of experience as a technical specialist / engineer in a Telecommunications/Wireless/MSO company supporting IEEE 802.11 standards.
CCNP preferred.
Experienced Telecommunications Engineer with the ability to understand Physical and Data-link layer media properties and implications as they relate to network architecture (i.e. fiber optics, 802.11, HFC, DOCSIS, RF, etc.)
Hands on and fully experienced working knowledge of LAN Switching architecture, design and implementation.
Fundamental knowledge in packet based protocols such as TCP/IP (including protocols like DHCP, DNS, TCP, UDP, etc), MPLS and routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP.
Knowledge in Network Monitoring Systems and the use of SIEM tools
Fundamental understanding of modern router architecture (control plane and forwarding plane separation, switch fabric design, egress queuing, IP lookup algorithms).
Intermediate knowledge in DOCSIS access and provisioning technologies.
Knowledge of optical transport systems.
Must have or be able to obtain a valid Florida Driver's License
Required Experience
Experienced in data communications, networking principles, traffic engineering, and bandwidth capacity management.
Knowledge of data network phenomena relating to network performance: response time, throughput, and availability.
Working knowledge of WiFi Alliance and 802.11 specifications.
Knowledge of Picocell, and Femtocell technologies.
Knowledge of Security protocols and authentication (WISPr, EAPS-TTLS, 802.1x, AAA, RADIUS)
